David Anton, Esquire, is a third generation Tampa attorney with an office located in the center of Tampa’s historic Ybor City. After graduation from Jesuit High School (class of 1977) in Tampa, David attended the University of Florida where he received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1981 with a major in Economics and an emphasis on Accounting. Thereafter, David attended the University Florida College of Law where he was bestowed a Juris Doctor degree in 1984.
David’s experience includes working as a Certified Family Law Mediator for approximately 20 years, a Collaborative Divorce attorney for 5 years (Collaborative Law is a relatively new concept), and also a Securities Arbitrator for 15 years. Frequently, he has been a keynote speaker at many seminars relating to Family Law, Securities Arbitrations, and Elder Law. He is also the President and CEO of Cigar City Investment Company which develops and manages commercial and residential real estate throughout the Tampa Bay area since 1987. David has been a member of the Ybor City Chamber of Commerce, Schaarai Zedek Synagogue Board of Directors, Tampa Historical Society, and Sierra Club. He has also held many additional positions and affiliations throughout the Tampa Bay Jewish community.
Having now practiced law for 30 years, David is an active member of the Florida Bar and the Hillsborough County Bar Associations. For these associations he is a member of the Family Law, Collaborative Law, Securities Law, and Elder Law sections. He is also a member of PIABA (Public Investors Arbitration Bar Association), the preeminent national association of attorneys representing public customers in their disputes with the securities industry.
While the majority of David’s 30 years of practicing law has always focused on family law, he brings professional expertise in other often needed disciplines to the table. Family law includes dealing with client’s personal, professional and financial problems which is often complex and frequently requires knowledge and experience in a variety of related professional areas of expertise. During approximately his first 15 years of practicing law, David assisted clients with a variety of problems outside of the family law realm. He has considerable experience in both alternative dispute resolution (mediation, arbitration, and collaborative law) as well as contested litigation. He settles those cases which he can and aggressively litigates those which he cannot.
He has owned and operated a law practice and a real estate development and management company. David is involved in the continuous innovation and modernization of his law practice. The practice is housed in a 110 year old historic building in Ybor City which David fully gutted and renovated, turning it into a modern law office in 2008.
Earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a major in economics and with an emphasis in accounting has given David skills in the family law related areas of accounting, tax, real estate, small business operations, bankruptcy, debt collection, securities, and appeals.
